In my state (Tennessee), they're required, and are done for all periods. It depends on what is in that period, so for example, if you have a study hall period, you don't have an exam there.

Literally just a class period where you study for other classes, or it could also be a nice break period if you don't have anything to work on!

#49876 we don't have national tests here, or it should be, very rarely. We just do lots of singular tests of every subject all the year

We just have end of 8th grade exams, end of High school exams, and INVALSI wich are some tests you do every some years so the country knows the average intelligence of students
