Albeit I go to a small school, I have never met someone who can beat me consistently (a teacher did once). I created a chess club in middle school with the help of one of the teachers, but it ended up just being an after-school hang out for awkward kids; nobody played chess. I eventually stopped going, it just wasn't what I wanted. Chess is a dead art, thought to only be for geniuses and nerds, but it is an elegant, beautiful game that has survived the centuries for a reason. Modern culture just doesn't see it. A solution? Most towns with at least a fair number of people have some sort of "underground" chess club. Find one and join it. You will almost never feel more at home.
