First OTB tournament experience

It wasn’t official, it was for my high school’s chess club. We hold tournaments within the club or with nearby schools. There’s 16 of us. Most of the players in the club have a good 1000-1100 ELO I would estimate. I’m a 300 ELO, hell I’m literally 200 something USCF. Not a good player at all.

We had a tournament vs a nearby school. I got 2nd place. This is out of 16 people for my school and 20 for the other. I’m really proud of myself. My opponent in the finals is about 1300-1400. As I said I am 300. I ended up losing. I analyzed the game and found that he actually made not one but two brilliant moves.

Great job! Speaking of tournaments, I'm just around 800 and I am hoping to play in some low elo tournaments, does anyone know where I could go, be it online or in person, for something like that? I'm in college so honestly pretty intimidated to join a chess club at university because I'm pretty sure these kids will just destroy me.

If ur in a college town there's a good chance u can find otb tournaments. U will definitely like real live otb rated tournaments better than online. Don't worry about ur level just go play. I think it's even good for complete beginners to play in rated events as long as they know all the tournament and chess rules.
