Play lots of chess...lol...pay your dues losing a lot before winning

Learn one good opening as white and know it inside and out.

Learn one defense for e4 and another for d4

practice tactics, tactics and more tactics

learn how to win in the end game..actually I read Endgames by Seirawan

and read the Amateurs Mind by Silman

that's what I'm doing and learning a lot...I still lose more than I win but the tables are turning..wink..remember your not going to be playing for the world championship anytime soon...so don't spend a lot of time in books of variations that even most grand masters don't even understand....lol

I think you need to play carefully, learn how to play openings which you like best and learn intermediate skills, and solve puzzle every day
Good luck broo:)))

Are people really doing stuff like learning openings at the 1000 level?! How much harder are ELO 1000 players to beat than computer players of the same rank? I have played some games against the bots to shake off the rust and get a feel for the game, but beyond having a rough idea of what an opening is as a concept, I have no knowledge of what any standard opening looks like. I can regularly beat the 1000 and 1100 bots, but lost my games to the 1250 and 1300 bots. Will I get my rear handed to me if I play actual people in the 1000 to 1100 range?

I feel woefully underprepared.

I have the same problem but when I consider the time when I was a beginner, I think its really about unlocking a style of thinking. Playing 10 days a game will help you pick up on the current elo's player's thinking and slowly you will cross the low elo hell

Hello

Plarrer

Here's my recommendation, to pass 1000 rated, firstly, I want you to just cut out the blitz games for now. Although the field in blitz is much stronger, since you're a beginner, I would recommend you to stick to rapid, I myself played up until 1600 until I really started playing other time controls. For beginners, the best thing to improve is to train your tactics and master them, get as good at you can, and don't waste your time on openings, I myself am a 2200+ rated player and I'm still not too familiar with any openings, so it really doesn't matter, especially at your level. But I recommend you at least have one opening for white and black so you don't get a losing position in 10 moves. Let's say you pass the opening phase, what should you do? The main thing you should do in the middle game are one of these things. Attack the opponent's king, create a queenside attack, or fight for the centre. You should mainly focus on achieving these goals. So, how do you choose a plan? It often depends on the opening you play, but it also depends on your play style, so I recommend you find out yourself. To check for blunders and things like that, look at the last move your opponent made, why did they do that, if there is no threat or they didn't make any mistakes, think of the move you want to play, and check for any blunders. For the endgame, you should mainly learn rook endings, this is the most common ending and is very important, endgames are not as important at your level but it is still necessary, since most games end at the opening or middle game, you should also learn pawn endings like king and pawn vs king, and learn checkmate with king and rook, and king and queen vs king. Do not waste your time on Queen vs Rook or Bishop and Knight checkmate, these happen way to infrequently and I have not seen them even in 10000 games. That's pretty much all you should know, learning more advanced stuff should be saved for later.
