are there any highly rated players that can help me get better? I've started out about a year ago at at like 644 or something about this time. and slowly climbed back to 1200! I'm flat broke can I play against a GM seriously, for some tips? i get frustrated but I'm eager to learn! Can anybody please

My two cents...  Don't play those 1 minute games yet (I've looked at your archives).  Play longer games where you can think and make better choices.  Do you have a club nearby to play over-the-board games?  My games became much better after I learned to focus at the board with no distraction like online.

I also like the book by Dan Heisman, "World's Most Instructive Amateur Gamebook" (bit.ly/AmateurChess) - he exposes most common errors of us, amateurs.

and don't worry about your rating. once you start winning it will quickly climb again

Also, if you play players much batter than you, you wont lose a lot (or even any) of points

Hi, I have almost 1900 and belive me when I say "you dont know what is to lose", how many games you have lost? 2000? well I have lost way more than that, what happen is that if you know how you can learn how to advance from that, I have been playing for 2 years well almost 3 and started in 1000, I dont know how, as a kid I knew how to move the pieces but thats it, if you want you can take a lesson with me and if you dont belive me check my stats

You wouldn't benefit much from playing against opposition much stronger than you. Play longer time control games with players around your level or slightly stronger and analyze afterwards. If you can identify where your weaknesses are, it will be much easier for others to point you in the right direction.

I bet there is two reason why you are losing at your rating; 1. Blunders and 2. missing tactics. Play at least 15 minute time control and study a lot tactics; be diligent in working on tactics and your rating will go up quickly. A very good book to introduce basic chess principles and strategy is Logical Chess Move by Move by Chernev and you start planning better and winning more games. These suggestions help me get 1500 otb in six month, I was 1162 uscf in three years become an expert 2019 uscf; everyone who took my suggestions their rating went up. My friend who was 1400 uscf for ten years had coaches and his rating never went up and I suggest only two books Logical Chess Move by Move and The Most Instructive Games of Chess Ever Played by Chernev and my friend went as high as 1880 uscf.

I am probably the worst person to give advice but I will say this. I have been playing for over 40 years and have never been very good.....really. A few years ago my rating on Chess.com was in the mid 1300's and for awhile I seemed to be playing well. I stopped playing for a couple of years and then decided to take it back up again and it seemed like no matter how hard I fought, I would lose. My rating has since fallen below 1000. However, over the last couple of weeks I have started winning more games and not by chance. I learned something through this. First I started pouring into the tactics just to try and train my eye. Also, I noticed that whenever I would play and blunder, as soon as I had made the move, within seconds, I saw the blunder. For some reason I hadn't seen it soon enough and I realized that I was rushing myself and not analyzing my move enough. If I saw something that looked good I took it, even if that Queen was in the same file unobstructed on the other side of the board. Once I realized this, I have consciously slowed down my play, and I am finding it to be very beneficial and am confident I can get back to where I once was. So try to slow things down a little bit, hit the tactics puzzles and see what happens.

My own chess rating is far from that of a Grandmaster! - I float between 1400 and 1500. However I am a qualified teacher. So I can speak more about learning strategy than I can about chess strategy.

One thing to keep in mind is that learning should be enjoyable when possible. When we stress out over something our thinking can become less effective and our efforts can diminish. Come up with a improvement plan that you enjoy. There are so many options.

Also, your improvement does not always show up immediately in your chess rating. For example, if you learn one new opening your rating probably won't make any observable increase. You may need to learn 10 new openings before it has an impact on your rating. This hold for any learning strategy you use. So, don't automatically feel like you're not improving. Many drops make a mighty ocean. Enjoy the game and enjoy your learning happy.png

Hi! It's good to acknowledge you are tired, this is an important part of your development as a chessplayer -and of course your personal development too. This little feeling is like an internal alarm that tells you something about your play - it is not as good as it used to, at least this is what the numbers show. Best way to deal with this -from a Coach perspective - should be to find out the reason of your drop in performance and work on it.  For that you can read a good book, join a chess club, ask for advice to other players  and/or work with a coach.

The good thing is that once you do your homework you will always improve, if it is your goal. It is just a matter of going in the right direction, have a training program and stick to it.

Good luck!

I`m a Chess.com coach. Should you be interested in training or lessons, just send me a message and I will reply you with more details.

Always check your intended move is no blunder before you play it.
Hang no pieces, hang no pawns.
That little mental discipline alone is enough to get to 1500.
