Maintaining kids' enthusiasm
Start with chess960, keep them limited in terms of bullet and blitz but you'll want them to play some eventually as it heightens the intuition. I would recommend avoid teaching opening lines and make sure to get them with all of the tricky things for beginners such as scholar's mate and the like. Do puzzles together as a group and make sure everyone has a go before looking at the solution (including you!) as eventually they'll get better and better and you will as their teacher. Chess960 is fun because of the randomness, they will get good at formulating plans quickly. I have a few other ideas, send me a chat or something and I can share them, now back to homework...
Hello! I have a few nephews and nieces (between 8 and 14 year old) who have recently become interested in chess under my guidance. I am by no means an expert, with a rapid rating of around 1500 here on chess.com. I am however the best coach they have at the moment, with the local chess clubs under lock down, and me being the best chess player in the family. Does anyone have any tips on how to keep kids enthused by chess, or any didactic materials or games someone of my skill level could play with them? I would love to not be the best chess player in the family one day .
