...but my grandson will be in two months from now. I showed him a live game on chess.com and he learned the names of the pieces. He said things like: "oh la tour a bougé!". While he was watching and reacting I made a movie out of him. He watches that movie with utmost interest. I let him play with Smallfish app on a tablet and he managed to use the arrows (of course not knowing what he was doing except make the pieces move). Then I took out a magnetic set and showed him how to place the pieces on the board, beginning with the pawns, then the rooks in the corners, then the knights besides the rooks, followed by the bishops besides the knights. Then I made him notice the color of the queen and the color of the 2 remaining squares.

I got this on film too! Sunday morning, right after getting up, he came to wake me up with the chess set in his hands! He was hooked! I made him play with the app MagnusTrainer and he loves it!

That's awesome!  Wish someone got me hooked that early! I'd probably be a better player now wink.png

I hope this is a good thing because chess addiction can make you miss a lot of things in life. But it can open other doors. One thing is for sure, it give a good share of happiness.

Nice! My father taught me chess when I was 3 as well, and I have been addicted to it ever since tongue.png

Awesome!  Doing better then when I started at 20 haha happy.png

Addiction... Any is bad. Chess addiction would be one of the slightly better ones wink.png lol

So cool!

batgirl

I was about 21 when I learned the moves. I never once said, "la tour a bougé."

Now I feel upstaged by a 2 year old.

@batgirl. We all walk different paths. Yours is rich with your writings and the help you give people. Thank yourself. "We only get what we give" says a song. Being able to watch live games with self-moving pieces was not possible not so long ago. Children are fascinated by this!

Better than me, I had to wait in high school to learn. My grand daughter is 19 months old and she can take the chess men and put them upright on the board. Her own decision! Next she will put them on squares. The grand son now is learning how the pieces move.

exceptionalfork

Nice! I learned when I was 5

ChristianBC

No, I would not expose a kid on the Internet. He will have to decide of his image rights when he is of age.

ChristianBC

Not yet, he is just learning how to move the pieces. He goes at his own rate and I don't push him. He also likes to play taptiles and slice fractions and tries mastermind but of course he can't understand this yet. He explores.

[This is a reply to a post someone erased]. What did you drink when you turned 4 ? grin.png  I don't remember either except that my father had an old style camera so I could see my baby self some years later. But that baby could have been anyone else. I did not remember these moments I saw.

ChristianBC

[same here] I know. I just related some facts. I never said he would be a GM or anything else. Other people gave their remarks. He may stop being attracted to chess too. Give kids a chance to be stimulated and they will look like genius, but they just really are regular children. But don't let them just in front of the t.v.

I wonder how many times I've heard that sentence: "There is a kid that beats all Grandmasters!"

Mozart composed music at age 5. Apparently decent music. But that's a one case on a billion or so. Kids who are fluent (age like) in two or three languages at age 3, is rather common. etc. i was fluent in two languages at age 4, and played piano. Like a 4 years old. Means nothing.

Of course it means something...Means you likely don't have learning disabilities. In fact, means your brain is working very well!  Don't forget how awesome that is happy.png The brain does nearly everything for us.

Think I know the attitude you mean.. pushing.. expecting the best.. it is wrong.

Don't think thats going on here at all. He's just excited to see the little one show interest happy.png Fun to watch kids grow and learn!

But ya, that crazy attitude though is what kept me out of a few sports.. crazy parents! Lol
