Excellent book to study or learn from.

I just got the 2022 edition of The Mammoth Book of Chess with the new section on online chess and using computers. Anyone else reading it now?

would you recommend this book for beginners or at least very bad players in the 100 level ?? i need a book to read that will get me out of the depression i feel playing this game

Based on what I’ve read, it might not be the absolute best book for beginners, but I kept noticing Bobby Fisher Teaches Chess listed among the top beginner books. I ended up buying it too, since I was tired of staring at my phone during my commute. Plus, it’s compact and lightweight, especially compared to the “Mammoth” brick of a book.

I would highly recommend this book to almost anyone below 2400 strength who isn’t familiar with these games!

@SmyslovFan, are you referring to the “Mammoth Book of the World's Greatest Chess Games”? I was thinking about reading it once I complete the “Mammoth Book of Chess”.

Yes, my mistake. I consider the Mammoth Book of Chess to be an inexpensive encyclopedia. I don’t rate it very highly. It came out when the internet was quite young and much of its information is either outdated or outmoded. The internet is a better resource.

No worries. Thanks for sharing.
