1. I was also super nervous when I first started out and I also expected myself to get good result (because I was usually one of the strongest players), but this pressured me a lot and caused me to make a lot of dumb mistakes that lost me the game. After a while I realized I just needed to play for fun and not expect good results and that helped with my nerves and actually led me to get good results (i've gained about 375 rating and won 300$ in the last 2 tourneys ive played).
2. I don't look at the board the whole game, usually I will get up and look at other boards during my opponent's turn as I don't want to feel exhausted playing my own game, plus i can get quite antsy sitting for a few hours.
3. The main change I make in my game play is I try to be a little bit more solid, I like to play very aggressive however in classical games the opponent will usually have a bit more time to properly defend so I tamper down my saccing instict.
In an online game I likely would have played a much quicker h4, h5, and sac on g6. But in the classical game I was a bit more catious and took the game in a much quieter and positional direction.
good luck with your tournament!
Hello guys, I'm eager to receive responses for this. I have an upcoming scholastic age division tournament and would like to get a sense of the playing field. I understand it's very general and can be varied based on circumstances (i.e the level of play present at the tourney). Though, here's some questions.
Thanks in advance for your help.
