As far as I know, players who score points in this way receive a well-deserved punishment. But the system cannot always track such violations and therefore you need to write to the support service about each such violator.
Daily Tournament Leaderboard Manipulation
I totally agree with you Craig, tourney points have become kind of meaningless. I entered one just to see how it worked and sure enough I made a total of 7 moves and got a gold medal and 81 tourney points. It's the last time I do so as it just seems like a waste of time with no thought involved. I guess those players just like to see their name on a leaderboard.
Welp, there are now several players who have exceeded 1,000,000 daily leaderboard points for this year through playing thousands of farcical one move checkmate tournaments. I liked the leaderboard approach that let mediocre chess players such as myself move up the leaderboard based on consistent, long term success in daily tournaments against comparably low rated players. However, the current trend for players to manipulate the result through fixed tournaments devalues the whole leaderboard. I suggest again that chess.com rethink their approach to the leaderboard so that points reflect actual chess achievements.
Craig
Formally and technically You are right, Craig. On the one hand it is a shame that tournament "plowmen" try for months to get points in daily tournaments, but on the other hand the site increases its traffic. And I think many players simply do not know about the tournament points system. The first step is not to award points in one-way (one-move) tournaments
Now on the points of Your proposal in the first post
1. I agree, but if it leads to a forced win (checkmate in one move or etudies)
2. I disagree. Sometimes less than 10 honest players sign up for tournaments. Why not hold them?
3. I agree. The first 50 - 100. In total, players with tournament points are about 600,000 - I counted it myself.
There is a group of "players" making a mockery of the Daily Tournament Leaderboard by setting up or playing in a large quantity of single move checkmate Tournaments. All players finish tied for first and collect the tournament points. These players are now dominating the leaderboard. There is absolutely no chess skill involved, just manipulating games to tie for first and collect the rating points. This ruins the leaderboard for the vast majority of people who want it to reflect actual achievements. My suggestions would be:
1. Do not award points to players in tournaments with custom positions,
2. Do not award points in tournaments with less than 10 or so players, limiting the ability of players to win points through quick agreed draws.
3. Periodically review the history of the top 25-50 players on the leaderboard and remove those who have gamed the system through extensive use of single move checkmate or other abusive techniques.
Thanks, Craig
