Penalty for abandoning game

Since it is rude to abandon a game instead of resigning, shouldn’t there be a point difference in how one leaves a game?

The rating system is designed to reflect past performances and a loss, is a loss. Removing additional points skews the rating system.
There already are restrictions placed on accounts bc that do it too often.
Yeah give them a big Q as their flair for a week

I just played a game where my opponent abandoned after 1 move. this was the second game we played ( I won the 1st, they wanted a rematch). The ELO adjustments were +7 win or -9 lose for me ... I'm pretty sure my opponent lost 32 ELO when they abandoned ... is this penalty new -- am I mistaken?
