Your idea gets a big 'thumbs up' from me! Of course, I just discovered these cute little emoticons that could serve the same purpose. I wonder, are they available to all members, or only members of a certain level (I currently have a diamond level membership).
A LIKE button for comments?

I can do them too . As for the OP: , it seems like "the thing" now for many sites on the internet, including youtube and others. I really don't see how it can hurt. But does like/thumbs up come along with dislike/thumbs down?
NOOOOOOO, only not that. I had enough of "like" from facebook. People will just stop commenting and start hitting like, like that, like this. Don't ruin old good arguing in forums.
one good thing about that is you could make it so the comments with the most thumbs up appear at the top of the page, which would prevent annoying comments like "first"
There are no comments like "first" in forums, only when chess.com staff post something, like puzzles...
Keep the flames alive. No 'like' button. If you like or dislike, I want to know WHY. -.-
Ok what about secondary threads? Often when I look at a puzzle, or read a forum, it's already many hours old, and I'll read a comment, or analysis, that I want to follow up on. But the thread is already hundreds of comments long. I have no way of knowing where the responses to that comment are, without sifting through a ton of other stuff. I'd like a way of getting to related comments.

Most liked
Also, that would make it rather difficult to follow the progress of a thread, don't you think?

I don't mean replacing arguments, I just mean if someone was particularly funny, or something like that, I'd like to be able to encourage them without quoting thier entire comment and just adding, haha

What he's saying is that individuals will lazily push "like" instead of writing why they like it (or not) and adding to the conversation.
I think there ought to be a like button (similar to facebooks) for forum comments and various other things on this site. I haven't considered all the pros and cons of this, but I think it would shorten the threads a bit, eliminating a lot of quoting, and making it easier to reach more pertinent posts. It doesn't have to be a like button it could just be thumbs up or down buttons or something else. Perhaps a secondary thread branching off of a comment. Any thoughts pro or con, or new ideas are welcome. :)
