I've heard Chrome is best for chess.com freeloaders.
Ads
I'm becoming increasingly unimpressed with chess.com ads. Oftentimes ads pop out and firefox only stops the first few waves of ads. Othertimes the ads are movies with sound, thereby driving other people in the room as I am insane (I use chess.com in public places a lot).
Chess.com calls itself a family website, yet I can't see how they can justify this claim given the female buttocks that were sticking out at me in several ads.
I am very unimpressed.
If only you or a few others are affected then this may apply. http://support.chess.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=698
There was at least one widespread occurrence in the past. http://www.chess.com/forum/view/community/inappropriate-ads-on-chesscom. You may have to wait for others to voice their concerns.
Get the firefox addon noscript. Your welcome.
PawnAvalanche does not want to block ads he is reporting inappropriate ads.
http://arstechnica.com/business/news/2010/03/why-ad-blocking-is-devastating-to-the-sites-you-love.ars
if there are inappropriate ads, there are 2 possibilities:
1. your computer has malware that is serving up bad ads (this is rare, but it does happen)
2. some bad ads slipped through the filters (possible)
when that happens, please find the REPORT AD link and click it and include the details and we can get them removed.
while ads are necessary, yucky ads are not.
very sorry!

I agree. That's why i became a premium member. If you just want to get rid of adds--just upgrade to gold for $28 a year!
I'm sure Chess.com will get to the bottom of them.

It is not a Chess.com issue. Your computer is infected with malware (that did not come from Chess.com).
Try an antivirus, or wathever you windows user use nowadays, get rid of the offending program and your problems will be over.
I have no such issues since I use an Unix based OS, which by the way I have found to be the best antivirus available (since you don't get any ).
Chess.com becomes impossible to use because of some very intrusive flash ads that appeared recently.
They are all 'find your soulmate', 'have sex with some 3D doll' kind of ads and they pop up everywhere like crazy and freeze my games. I have to go through a lot of pain to make a single move.
This is only a recent issue and wasn't happening before.
I don't care too much about the type of ads you put on the website as I use my private computer, but if you could avoid making them popup everywhere and freeze my browser (scrolling bar of the chess.com window), that would be nice (latest IE on perfectly clean win7)
And no, I'm not changing my very nice IE for some RAM eating open source crap just to play chess online. I'd rather timeout all my games.
Thanks for hearing me.

if there are offensive ads, please report them. if they are causing issues, please report them.
Hi erik,
Sorry but I don't know where to report malfunctionning ads. I could contact a random staff member but still I wouldn't know what to report.
All the flash ads are malfunctionning, taking all the page and freezing the scrollbar. (IE8 on win7)
It's already painful trying to avoid an ad to be able to write this message, I have to let all my games time out although I could play.
I'll check from time to time to see if it works again, but until then I'll play on other websites compatible with recent browsers.
thanks
EDIT: I found the "report ad" link in the source of the page but it doesn't appear in the page invaded by flash ads.
I don't know if this has been mentioned, but on the bottom toolbar where the IM program is, the lower left corner I get these little pop-up ads. Call me ignorant if this has been said already but it's just bothering me. Will this go away once I go Diamond in two days?
No sorry. We can't do anything about those 3rd party meebo ads :(
You can completely turn off meebo chat in your Privacy section (Account)
http://www.chess.com/home/privacy.html
Where it says "Chat Bar", use the drop down box and mark as "Never Show" then save settings at the bottom of the page
