Is any else really annoyed by those audible advertisments?

"Hey there, IQ test here"

Shush!! I don't need unwanted attention drawn to me at the coffee shop.

I dont mind the Advertisments but can we have not make noise?

MapleDanish

I actually agree.  That is bad.  I mean... the obvious answer is pay a couple bucks for a membership.

But... even without a membership, maybe 'noisy' add's are a little invasive.  Personally I don't know if I'd choose to play here without a subscription.

Why don't you just turn the speakers off or refresh to get a different ad.

I have yet to see an audible ad on this site.  I see other ads that are just pop-ups.

I don't turn my speakers on though so that may be why i never hear anything.

It's nice to see that someone agrees.

I don't think I should have to turn my speakers on and off. I happen to like to have them on and hear the moves on the board.

I suppose the best fix would be just to get a membership, but I'm still deciding on that. Anyway, where can I find this MEEBO and turn it off?

Thanks for your responses'

i think that audible advertising online is unethical. it's intrusive and no site should allow it. ever.

i don't think that "buy a membership" is a reasonable solution either. you shouldn't have to pay money NOT to be annoyed by this kind of advertising.

it's like having to pay the school bully to stop kicking you

or paying for antivirus to protect an operating system that should already be safe from virii

i understand chess.com wishes to make money. but i also believe that they should scrutinise their advertisers and ensure that the advertising is not detrimental to their userbase.

i pay for membership to get vacation time (i travel a lot). but if i was a free user, i wouldn't use this site if ads kept annoying me.

having said that, the alternative is to use firefox and the adblock plugin. so you'll get an ad-free version of chess.com. i used it before i bought a membership. if any ads get through, right click them and add them to the ban list.
