Board & Piece Settings Don't Work on Website

Sort:

I'm experiencing a glitch: my board settings don't work on the website. I have for a long time had my board set to brown and my pieces to classic; for some reason, these settings changed to a green board and Neo-style pieces. No matter what I do, I can't seem to change them back – everything will look fine when I'm in Settings, but in an actual game it's always green/neo. This doesn't seem to be an issue in the Android app.

Thoughts?

Wow!  I saw this just shortly after I posted virtually the same thing.

Only difference is, I only get this problem when playing Correspondence (a.k.a. Daily Chess on here).

In Live or Analysis mode, I get the settings mine is set for (Classic pieces, Brown board).

It works occasionally in Correspondence.  Been happening for about 3 to 5 days now.  The first day, I get the wrong board maybe 20 percent of the time, the right one 80 percent.  As each day has gone on, the failure rate has increased.  Now it fails 70 to 80 percent of the time!

So this really does look like a chronic problem with the site itself, not user error!

Bump!

Anybody from Chess.com technical support looking into this???  It is now pretty much 100% of the time - Correspondence Only!

Same thing just happened to me tonight. Definitely a site glitch that must have crept in while they may have been fixing something else. App is fine. On mobile website I have board and pieces set to Tournament. Suddenly in a daily game the board loaded fine but then the pieces loaded were completely the wrong theme. I cleared Internet images temp cache. Then I went and changed the pieces theme to any theme and clicked save. Then I went out of settings and went back in again and set pieces to tournament, saved and re opened the game and pieces loaded correctly. Not sure how long it will stay correct. Has anyone spoken to customer support?

It would help if you click "help" at the top of the page then "report a bug".

Reporting to Tech Support

I think we have even bigger problems. I don't know if anyone has tried using the site today on iPad . Broken. All icons on left when tapped load a 404 page error. So one can't use the site with an iPad. Android mobile web working but gear and bell icons won't work in home page or default landing page view. Tap and nothing  happens!! Only if I tap the envelope or hand/pawn icon and am in messages or game page do the bell and gear icons work.

Someone at chess.com has been working on pages code and broken it!! And @wanwokewan I have told IT support. I even sent screen videos of all the issues.

Bump. This got fixed for a few days, but the bug has returned today.

flashlight002

Hi @Mr-Twist Which bug? The board pieces issue or the 404 errors on trying to access chess.com on an iPad?

curmudgen

I cannot change (and keep board settings) I save on Settings, but the board will not accept the setting.

did we find a solution? the green is so hard to look at

I have found a solution to this; go into your search engine and just clear your history from the time it happened and then log back into the site. If you're using google just click the three dots in the top right, go to delete browsing data then set the time for whenever this occurred.
