I was just thinking yesterday about a plan for a new checkers site, checkers.com! Why doesn't Erik and his associates come together and make a checkers website? It could be just like Chess.com, with teams, tournaments, online and live checkers and checker forums! Chess.com staff, consider it! :)

I'd play!

planeden

thay'd have to call it something else, though.

How about Checkers.net?

dschaef2

YES!!! CHECKERS.NET DOES NOT EXIST YET!!!! ERIK, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?

Isn't checkers solved? Aren't there numerous openings which are banned because they are automatic wins? What do Floyd and Goober have to say about this?

I don't know how he could possibly make any money off of it. There's tons of checkers all over the internet.

planeden

there's tons of chess on the internet, too.  he just has to make it the best checkers on the net, like he did for chess.

note:  i do not think i would join checkers.net

To make it the best, it took Erik 3 years of hard work for this site to work and now he has another challenge. www.chesskids.com

Yes, and this exactly why there is no naughts-and-crosses.com...
                                    because it is solved.

 Draughts.com?

Interesting. That takes me to a major American cable-television site. They must have it reserved for a future program. A drama? A reality show?

I can think of nothing more riveting than checkers for people other than those actually playing the game.

i didn't intend to imply it would be easy.  also, was this ever intended to be a serious thread?

The commentary on a checkers game would be fun...and the annotations. I'd have to read up on the greatest players of all time. Then, we could have the standard discussions too...Is checkers related to IQ? Why are men better at checkers than women. At what age should I teach my child checkers?

Why doesn't my opponent resign?

The discussion on weak light square complexes would be interesting...and the discussion of tactical vs. positional play. I have no idea what would substitute for a discussion of Bishops vs. Knights. I bet someone would insist Bobby Fischer was the best of all time.

Probably reduce the use of engines, I guess the whole game could be looked up in an ending table.

And...Checkers960?
