Isn't checkers solved? Aren't there numerous openings which are banned because they are automatic wins? What do Floyd and Goober have to say about this?

Yes, but you can still play Checkers 960

Frown Sorry, malko, Cows beat you on post #18. (It's still funny though) Smile

Didn't see that post, Writch.  At least I thought of something funny in a different language that didn't get lost in translation. Laughing

Writch

You know, that is an astute observation: that the humourous concept of Checkers960 transcends language... Kudos!

Yes the 8x8 board has been solved, not sure about the 10x10 board.

However the Canadian checkers games played on a 12x12 board with 30 pieces on each side has not been solved yet and will not be for a while as combinations are astronomical.

 Rules of play are:

1.    checker or king cannot jump over the same opposing man or Canadian checkers game players make only one move at a time

2.    single checkers or men move forward only in a diagonal direction either left or right one square at a time to an empty space

3.    all captures are mandatory; if a checker can be jumped, then the player must make this move, regardless if he/she can make another move

4.    maximum captures are also compulsory; this means that if there is a choice of play wherein 2 checkers can be captured with one move or 3 checkers with another move, then the player must choose the latter capture

5.    capture is made by jumping over an opposing checker onto on a diagonally adjacent square to the unoccupied square immediately beyond

6.    checker pieces may jump forward or backward

7.    continuous jumps take place as long as there are opposing checkers situated near empty squares

8.    a player may not jump his/her own checkers to begin or complete a move

9.    a king more than once

10.    Canada checkers players may not remove the captured checker(s) from the board until all jumps made in the move are complete and the opponent’s hand is removed from the capturing checker or king.

In other words when offered a piece the opponent does not have a choice but must take it with the longest sequence of moves that gives the most men taken moving both forward and backward, very tricky at times, I know as I play the game.

If checkers is introduced using the Canadian game it could be called:

CheckersUSACAN.net

Or checkers.best.

It would appear the rumor is true... Canadians do have an awful lot of time on their hands - especially when couped up with cabin fever in the long winters.

And now that they have Canuckers© (Canadian-rules checkers), the tedium can be allieved and insanity kept at bay, grinding their mental teeth on solving checkers again while grinding their teeth on seal jerky.

It wasn't meant to be mean spirited, paul211. Sorry that you took such offense as none was intended. Living most of my life on the other side of Lake Erie, we have always had a friendly rivalry with our neighbors across the lake.

And I'm not even going to defend my laziness in looking up my words that I misspelled and the site's spell check conspired to shame me.

I'm glad I made your day and thanks for pointing out opportunities in areas that I still need improving (I'm really not a nasty or arrogant person).

To Everyone else: please dsregard my out-dated stereotypes of the friendliest people in the Western Hemisphere.

I would not say this is the best chess web site a cert-in inother site with 3 letters is IMO no offense Erik

I've tried many chess websites, and this is the best one I've ever experienced, by a wide margin. Yahoo! Chess is awful, fraught with cheaters, and bare bones to offer; Chessanytime.com is almost entirely blitz against random nobodies; etc. I am honestly in awe of all that chess.com has to offer. (No offense to you, either, rab63. Smile)

mmmm yes a checkers website would be cool, although checkers dosent take that much thinking and skill as chess.

7thSense

Not good at checkers, but sounds like a fun site! I'd help to make it! What about scrabble.com or monopoly, poker, blackjack, reversi, backgammon, etc.?

checkers.net!!

HikeyPlayz

Hi guys I really think we should make this happen.

Brainsfordays

I'm an 8th-grade student and love how Chess.com is unblocked and free to play but checkers would make your website so much better and if you would like more people means more money. I love chess and I would love checkers to be on this site too but don't work too hard on adding checkers to this website if it is too difficult to do.

GeographicBoy
