Game download

The pgn download implementation is clunky. I'd like the ability to download all of the prior games of an opponent at once. That way I can easily put the games in a database, create a dossier, and play the opening that my opponent has the most difficulty against. Researching one's opponents is a central element of the appeal of turn-based/correspondence chess. This site will be better (it is already one of the best) if it facilitates this process more readily.

This improvement is one of very few areas where competitive chess sites maintain an edge over Chess.com. Become the best!!

I, too, have wished for a feature like the one you described. Having to go through page after page of a players archived games is a bit tedious.

Surely this could be implemented without much trouble, couldn't it? ("And don't call me Shirley!!") After all, we can download all of our own games in one fell swoop.

BUMP

Hoping to get a reply from a Chess.com staffer.

Bottom of the games archive page it says

"download all my games in one PGN"

Please only use this if necessary

Hi Kohai, and thanks for replying.

I know you can do this for your own games, but it does not appear to be possible to do for someone elses games. For example, I cannot download all of YOUR games in one shot. I think this is a good feature to have so you can prepare to play certain opponents.

Pick some of their better ones then rather than the whole lot. Some players have over a thousand games already in their games history.

Kohai, this is not the help forum. It is the feedback and site suggestions forum. I know what the site offers and how to use it. I'm asking for an improvement in my favorite chess site.*

Other sites have this feature; Chess.com does not. If Chess.com wants to be the best chess site for turn-based chess, it will not lag behind the competition in features craved by serious chess players.

The site where I started playing turn-based chess several years ago permits download of all games played on the site by year. That is, all games completed in 2008 are a single file. Only turn-based games are included. If that site has live games, they are not part of this feature.

* I should note that I don't use the word favorite loosely as so many do these day. Nor am I unfamiliar with the features of other sites. I have played turn-based chess on some fifteen sites, and have finished something over 1000 games--I generally have from 12-30 going at once, rarely more. One site gave me a free one-year premium membership because I wrote reviews of turn-based sites. Currently I'm playing there (starting my sixth year) and here, and occasionally log in to one other.

ziryab i  was responding to post #3,  not your posts.

Posts #2 and #3 both simply echo post #1. You cannot reply to #3 without replying to #1.

I think it will contribute to entire chess community if ALL games from chess.com will be compiled regularly (may be on monthly schedule). At least games of all high rated players, it is really a valuable resource.

Well, they first have to eliminate the thousands of games played by cheaters and only then the remaining ones might have some value.

Simply because using a database with cyborg games and following such games long enough will register as cheating. By the way, using this database:

is also not allowed here, as confirmed by staff members.
