glitch in live chess

i was just playing a game and something very odd happened.  the end was near, but i was not in check, and moving my pawn forward one space from f4 to f5 would not have left my king in check, YET i was not able to move my pawn.  if you want to see for yourself to make sure that i'm not just naive to the rules of chess (which is not the case), it was the last game i played just a few minutes ago -- i believe my opponent's name was ag52 or ag(something) and was ranked in the 1500 range.  if you could PLEASE tell me why i was not able to move my pawn on the last move of the game before i resigned, i would be very grateful.  thank you.

Classy avatar picture you have there. What happened exactly when you pushed the pawn forward? Did the pawn return to it's original place when you left the mouse button? Strange because the move wasn't illegal.

correct, the pawn would not set down on f5.  i even tried clicking on the pawn and then clicking on f5.  so frustrating!  ><

it was the move that the game ended on. i resigned instead of finding a different move to play

no, i was trying to move that pawn for maybe five minutes.  i ended up resigning with a few seconds left though

I had an opponent who claimed that happened too.  He tried to move a piece and it wouldn't go anywhere.  Then he tried to move pieces at random to see if it was universal.  It wasn't.  he made a nonsensical move and lost the game.  It wasn't his fault...but there you are.  It happens.

I had this happen when I was in check, the game wouldn't allow me to move pieces to block the check or move the king out of the way.  I believe it also disabled moves that would normally be illegal.

why does this happen?  can somebody who works here tell me why?  this might be keeping me (and many others) from becoming paying members.

i found out how to solve the problem!  it happened again yesterday and my opponent suggested that i refresh the page.  voila!  presto change-o -- problem solved
