also, I am not just making this a onesided discussion. I cant take people that just pound me and people that like FREEDOM in general.
How come we cant choose what color we are in live anymore?
StupidDrip95 wrote a thread entitled: How come we cant choose what color we are in live anymore?
Erik wrote (in one of a multitude of similar threads):
the reason is that some people are abusing the option to just play white only. as an example we found one member who had more than 1,000 games as white... and 19 as black.
who goes around at a chess club and says "i'll play you, but i get white". it doesn't happen. you sit down, then you decide by luck who plays white, and you setup and play, then reverse when you are done.
if you want to play one particular color you can do so as unrated (for practice), or you can directly challenge someone with a specific color.
i'm open to hearing reasons for adding this back, but removing it removes abuse and confusion.
and also ...
"Anyway, we've discussed it and are not going to make any changes. Instead of spending time programming a feature that helps a handful of people (that we disagree with), were going to remain focused on things that benefit everyone equally."
well, then it does not reach the staff that are supposed to hear about it.
Well, if you had spent 30 seconds searching the forums instead of just posting your own repeated drivel, then you would know that the staff initiated this change, and feel that it's best for the site as a whole. So, there was no need at all to post this.
Additionally, the staff are much easier reached by using the "Help & Support" link at the bottom of the page, not through the forums. There is way too much crap in the forums for them to be able to see every post.
Gotta hand it to you kid--the name and the attitude go together.
I could not say it any better if I tried... High 5 LucenaTDB
i do not get what is going on
Someone feels that their freedom is being denied. Others feel that that person has the freedom to leave, instead of remain and complain. It is a controversial battle that continues to rage on more than three other threads. We're looking for a hero...

one person's freedom impacts another's. what about my freedom to drive 120 mph on the highway? or my freedom to walk into a movie theater without paying? actions have consequences. when we allow people to choose whatever color they want to play with, that reduces the fairness to the overall pool of players. that's the bottom line. sure, there may be complicated schemes whereby we could allow people some kind of limited choice that balances later... but that is extra work and extra confusion. there is one clear answer: everyone plays open rated challenges with white/black randomly and fairly.
There seem to be a lot of people who want to choose their colour, and yet feel unrated games are worthless because of lack of pressure: perhaps they should play each other and agree to care about the result?
Although in that case, we'd be deprived of all this whinetastic humour...
three bloody cheers, Erik spot on ! these ruddy whingers never think about the consequences of their ideas before they start grousing an' claiming their 'right' (an' that's a bloody laugh) to be selfish to the discomfort of everybody else Well said !!!
Sounds to me like StupidDrip wants the entire site to bend to his personal preferences. At his rating level, playing as white or black is of no consequence in winning or losing. Tactics will decide the game either way.
Someone with a rating of 1300-1400 should be more concerned with tactics, endgames and opening principles rather than which colour they're playing.
Just my two Jamaican cents (Worth about $0.000226372 USD)

Thank you erik. both of your posts here have been a major help.
