Idea for play-for-money section
I'm not sure I understood this. You are asking that chess.com create tournament, and than we need to pay fee to enter?
I hope you are not thinking about some rewards for final standing. Only meaningless number that represents rating is enough for some people to cheat. Can you imagine madness if there is money involved?
This is just a horrible idea ! Cheating is already bad enough without money being involved ! Imagine if you throw in cash prizes ? In fact ICC already tried this and they caught even very famous GMs cheating too !! NO NO NO !
I am with Streptomicin on this one!! Otherwise it would have to be 2 min blitz games so you would not be able to consult a computer on the side..
This is an awesome idea, but impossible to implement. Cheating would be impossible to stop for anything above 5/0.
I thought he was suggesting implementing a virtual version of "let's play for a dollar".
But since this would likely be between friends, why couldn't you just play, and then settle later on <insert favorite online payment processor here>.

Even below 5/0, there are programs which can play for you directly into the game client (almost solely self-produced, I assume) and so do not require you to shuttle moves back and forth between the browser and the engine.

Many otb tournaments are played for small stakes, so why not on chess.com? Seems like a good idea to me as it would create added incentive. As it is, what reward do you get for winning a game? Nothing!
As to the comments on cheating, doesn't chess.com deploy certain measures that detects cheating?
Cheating is undetectable if you run computer anaylsis software alongside your browser. I'm strongly with the "NO!" camp on this one.
Well it seems to me that the idea of making a profit from someone's website, whatever it is to do with, is still a big NO! NO! - full stop! You all want us to upgrade to this and upgrade to that for which we have to pay, but you don't want us the chance of winning anything back...
This is chess playing web site, not money making web site. If you want to earn some money playing chess, you can always play for money in park, or even join smaller tournament. As much as chess.com tries, there is not way to stop online cheating. Only to detect it after the game, and even than, it's only their word vs. "cheater".
This is place for fun, and for my 0$/month I have enough of it. If you wan't more fun, it's reasonable to pay some money. Hey, people pay money for farmwile, o-game and tons of other stupid browser games, not to mention WoW.
