Excellent idea!
(Live) Tournaments
We already have live chess. Most of it is speed chess, but you can set up games for 90 minutes each player, and maybe even 2 hours each. Make your sign-in, go to "my home," click on my home and find live chess listed in the drop-down menu. Go to "live chess" and explore the buttons there, and the computer will tell you how to float a game. You can put out an open invitation with the conditions you want for your game, and someone will usually sign on to play you after only a short wait of minutes.
We also have a live chess tournament now being completed on an experimental basis in the "Not-so-fast" chess group. Look under groups and teams in the "My Home" drop-down menu, and it should get you to this group. The group is for those of us who like, slow, serious chess play, and our members are trying to figure out how to hold tournaments with live chess play. I don't think you will need to pay to increase your class of membership to find what you want.
Incidentally, the first round bracket of an experimental live tournament was finished on Friday evening, May 22. This game, completed after an epic struggle lasting almost until midnight, ended when Thell_Schmuck eked out a desperate checkmate after being forced to the wall by the inspiring play of StrategyKing420 (Is there no justice??) The spectators were few, but those of us present were warmed to the core by the sportsmanship and good will of the participants.
The final of this trial tournament will be held within a few days when Schmuck encounters noble Maximilian in a two-game playoff G90 round. If a tie results, there is to be a two-game speed playoff: There'll be a brighter day tomorrow!
Well I love chess.com for its assortment of chess content and as a premium member i pretty much take advantage of using all features of this site..
One feature I think would improve the site and membership and popularity to it even more is if ... like tournaments are available for Online Chess, how about Live Chess? Maybe available to members only who pay, to compensate for extra measures needed to practically implement such an idea and I think its fun enough that with the right setup that the number of paying members would increase significantly just to play in the Live Chess tourneys. What do you guys think?
