Upgraded machine leads to more pleasing and faster site.

I was using a machine with the following specs:

32 bit Windows XP

Centrinoduo @ 1.67 Ghz

2 Gb RAM

256Mb graphics card

18" monitor (1440x900)

.... and the site looked okay. However, at Christmas I treated myself to the following new machine:

64 bit Windows Vista

Quad core (i7-920) @ 2.67 Ghz

6 Gb RAM

1 Gb graphics card

22" HDMI monitor (1980x1080)

..... all I can say is Wow! I had no idea how much detail and how many colours I had been missing (to say nothing of the instant page changes {even with ads all over the shop}).  I heartily recommend a hardware upgrade to all readers. Smile

much agreed. life it too short for a bad computer :)

You bet!  I have a pretty nice comp and I run Linux (really fast) and WOW! I was really pleased with how much faster things loaded than with my XP computer with 1 gig of RAM.  I'm running a dual core now with 3 gigs, and am quite happy with it.

Congrats on the new upgrade!  I like to see a happy fellow :).

Well, don't forget to take an antivirus, otherwise you'll see how your computer gets slower and slower. Using Mozilla with a bunch of add-ons (such as add-block) is also a good idea.

You're running a quad-core i7 920? Jesus...do you even use all four cores at once?

what is the best web browser to use on chess.com which is quick and doesn't crash and always works on the site as quad core is very quick but with the wrong browser all could go wrong. does anybody know

Yep. I too bought the i7 quadcore with 1gb graphics card (HP dv6t). Graphics quality and performance is amazing.
