As a workaround, I made this a bookmark:

and made it a habit to check it each time I login, but it would be cool to have this information available on "My Home", including time out warning!

WOW I have 19 pages of vote chess games (both completed and ongoing) Surprised

Yes I am offering my support to this idea that we need some kind of "early warning system" which tells us a vote chess game is about to time out

Jmcknz11

i would agree with the original decision if it wasnt for 1 hour games that would send you a reminder every 2 hours its your teams turn

I would Like the features added -

  1. Admins/Super admins can see what people have voted
  2. Admins can set votes that can only be done and other votes can't be

Alot of people are voting stupid stuff like Kh8! whats the point in that?

Also this feature - Admins can set when to vote

XavierPadilla

Billium248 has it right, I agree 100% with option 3.

I'm not so sure about option 4, I believe it's fair that team members' misconduct (e.g. drive-by voting) or blunders have an impact on their team as a whole.

If everybody makes a move just to avoid time out it's obviously wrong. But if only the person, who makes the first suggestion, votes for this move, a time out can't occur and if the group decides to make a better move it is still possible.

I think this could be a simple plan that works.

DaveShack

I also agree with Billiam248's option #3.

As everyone is saying, it would be great to have a page that listed all of your ongoing vote chess games, the time remaining to vote, and whether you have voted or not, all in a few lines.  Vote chess is probably one of the most interesting features of chess.com, so it would be great if it could be made as easy to use as Online Chess is now.

This isn't implemented for Online Chess, but having the option to change your vote would be a nifty feature.

rooperi

A Vote chess page would be nice.

Some info I'd like to see about games:

Whose move is it?

What is the time remaining?

Have I voted?

Has anybody else voted? (This alone would cut down on timeouts)

And, I still don't understand why the votes are invisible for players who have not yet voted, but visible for people who have. In well organised groups voters normally post the vote total anyway, so hiding the vote seems silly.

Also, it should show who voted what. There's really no need for a secret poll.

This still lends itself to the same problem tho.  People agree on what the move should be, but don't get back in time to vote for it.  We're all waiting on someone else to say, "Yes, this is the move.  Let's all vote now," and so no one votes.  The only votes made then are by drive-by rogues.  So even tho we all agree that move X should be made, we come back later to find out that move Y was made instead cuz we all forgot to vote.  Frown

This is the main reason I don't play many vote chess games, I never know when it's my move, and when I do happen to see it at the right time, I then have to remember to come back in 3 days to vote again, it would be much better if I could either "track" the moves or just have a reminder sent when it's my move such as the "group activity" emails I get. Perfect world I'd have them in the MY GAMES section.

THIS!!!

i don't play vote chess, because i can never remember which games are going and if it's my turn to submit a move.

a few of the groups i'm in are always posting that they need people to vote or the game will time out.

it seems that the vote chess system isn't as good as others (on chess.com). it'd be nice to get notifications or have the games actually appear in your regular game list. otherwise, people like me just forget ...

One classic type of foul-up you see is two strong players debating all the in and outs of a move at length.  They finally have it all worked out.  One votes, but finds that a drive-by has already voted for a silly blunder.  The other analyst never gets around to voting, and then the silly move wins because the drive-by voted first.

You sometimes get a situation where everyone looks at the game when their move comes, but if no one posts a comment, the game never reappears in anyone's alerts, and the group loses on time.

JagdeepSingh

In 10 min vote, make sure you have made a decision fast & made a vote before 60 sec is left.  That would be a great help as you will know which vote is leading.  Otherwise a pass-by voter like me could cost you the game!!!

As for 1-3 days chess, the main guys need to keep track of it.  You need to appoint at least 2 people to monitor it, they will have to take responsibilities if the game timed out.

JagdeepSingh

If 2 strong players are arguing which move is better, then let them vote for their move & let others decide which move they want to vote.  It may not be the best solution but it can save the game from being time out unnecessarily.

Or we could just have a page on our "home page" that tells us this information?

JagdeepSingh

Well I meant let others decide which of the those 2 move they want to vote & not any other moves. :)

I appreciate what you are saying but too many times people come in look at the board and make their moves without even looking at the game notes but that is not what this thread is about it is?

We are in here talking about games timing out because simply put we talk about a move for ages then thats it and the game times out before we realise.

Vote chess is one of the best features on this site for me and I think that this should be developed to make is more safer with regards to timing out.

Having all your vote chess games (active ongoing ones) on one page will allow a player to log in and see which games need a move making and how long before the game times out.

i support the idea to have a warning.

As long with the team captain, keeping track of discussion and voting, split voting, nagging bout time etc... you could also choose a "dummy" that always vote as soon as possible, to make sure that there is at least one vote casted. He/she should of course try to find the best move, but most important to not lose to timeout. There is also another gain in this. I find it frustrating to not be able to see what have been voted until you yourself vote. This dummy figure could keep track on how many have voted and what the % is before the team vote in general... In between this information could be important to know about.

When all this is said, I fully support an option at chess.com that automatically gives warning to whole team when a vote chess game is close to timeout..

That's what I do in some of my groups ^^
