Could a time out warning be set up on vote games please...please...please...

Another idea is that the move each member has voted for could be displayed next to thier name on the {Team Members] list. That might help discourage drive bys and stupid votes if people had to own up to thier voting.

by rooperi
You should not be allowed to vote until you have posted a comment for that move.

One feature that would be nice is if there is a way to submit a 'provisional' vote.
(With the possibility to change your vote if needed)

And a special thanks to:

I agree with the idea of providing a link to all of my active Vote Chess games with some sort of "it is our turn to vote" indicator there.  I do not favor additonal alerts otherwise as I prefer to keep things simple.

wormrose

Yes, I agree with keeping things simple. My suggestion which was repeated above was just a passing thought and it would probably require a significant amount of additional programming and would probably produce a lot of clutter. Irresponsible voting will always be a problem and I think as well, that some people will vote for a move as a way of suggesting it anonymously, rather than taking the chance of feeling embarrassed if it turns out to be a really bad move. On the plus side, irresponsible voting is usually corrected by greater quantities of responsible voting.

The main topic of this forum is the problem of accidental time outs and what measures might be taken to prevent that from happening.

wormrose

In addition to the comments I have made above I want to add that there are different types of vote games to consider.
A) The big public vote games on the main chess.com page. These games are not likely to time-out because there are a large number of people participating.
B) Games played between rival groups where winning and loosing is mostly a matter of team pride and glory. In these games I suppose it can be said, that a win is a win.
C) Finally, there are the games played by groups whose purpose it is to study the various chess openings. These games are highly educational (particularly for beginners and novices) where the discussion is beneficial to understanding the various lines of play in a particular opening and it is not so important whether you win or lose the game, but what you learn in the process. In these games the unintentional time-out is particularly heartbreaking because they represent a large investment of time and research by the members. The opening line you follow depends heavily on what the opponent gives you and so certain opportunities can be rare in occurring. In a typical two day per move game it takes forty days to complete the first 10 moves. At that point you are usually just getting out of the opening stage and into the middle game. These are the types of groups I belong to and the types of games I like to play. I have started a few of these groups and in at least one of them; 5 out of the 8 of the games started did not get out of the opening stage due to timeouts. This also represented a time period of one year, during which many opportunities (for learning) were lost.

I believe that creating a "My Vote Chess Games" page (with a link in the players' home page) would solve this problem to a large extent.

Giving timeout alerts on vote chess is also okay, but a bit too intrusive to my taste.

+ 1. I think this is the best option.

Absolutely!!! Yes this is needed NOW!!!

By seeing the "Current Vote Chess Games", there is no way that we can make out if its our turn or not. I request the staff to implement at least the below changes (Appointing Leader and other suggestions are there already)

1) Display the games in the order of Next Move Time.

2)Indicate if its our turn or Wating for opponent's move.

3)The Next Ready Game option (in the individual game) should only show the game where we (individual) has not voted.

These will help us to track the games easily.

shajian

I just found that the "Next Ready Game option" option shows the games which i joined & left. I cannot join that game again.

But this games is showed to me as "The below is your next ready game" Sealed

Defacto

Big flaw of these discussion is that it gets long and noone reads every page of it  (chess.com staff included)...so when good idea is posted it gets lost in too many posts...Who ever started this topin should make short list of suggestions and post it here and send it to chess.com staff too.....Like Willy_France did.

It is not suggestion about vote chess but it will help to make it happen.

I think Vote Chess needs a new name.

It should be called Consultation Chess, I think that better describes the intention.

And while we are on Vote chess, the Team's vote chess points in no way reflect the team's ability, only their level of activity. Something has to be done about this as well.

blackfirestorm

Don't think vote chess is high on their list of things to sort out Frown

rigamagician

I suspect that they will get to the My Vote Games box/page eventually.  When is Live Chess 3.0 scheduled to come out?

blackfirestorm

OMG they are all interested in live chewss ... live chess ... live chess... what about vote chess? 100's of 1,000's of people enjoy vote chess on this site?

wormrose

According to a main page poll several months ago, 51% of c.c members reported that they were engaged in at least one vote chess game.

live chess... live chess... cheaters... cheaters... chess tv... chess tv... sheesh Tongue out

rigamagician

What I meant was that when they bring out Live Chess 3.0, they will probably also introduce a My Vote Games box/page.  The last time they upgraded everything, they added some refinements to Vote Chess.

That would make it over 500,000 chess.com members Surprised

Apparently, Indian Marauders got "disconnected" recently in their vote game with Black Or White, but hopefully, that was just a one time thing.

wilt18

I think this "disconnecting" thing has happened a few times. It happened to one of my teams once.

blackfirestorm

Entire teams disconnect from team chat once the game has ended and this has happened more than once
