Win on time with no points

Sort:

Yesterday I "won" six games by default (timeout/tournament withdrawal) and my rating was artificially inflated. I realise you can disable the automatically claim win on time, but I'd rather have a setting that allows the game to be discarded rather than won or postponed. If I'm playing people who are a lot stronger than me and are most likely to win, I don't want to claim the points, but I don't want to wait forever either.

Is there a solution?

I think such occurences need not be anything to worry about, the rating system works so quickly here that your rating will settle to around its best value again quite quickly by itself if your present rating turns out to be a bit too high.

I dont think this is a good idea since there are some players who instead of resigning let their time to run out, and if a win/loss on time resulted in no rating change, occurencies of such behaviour would increase because more people would start abusing this feature.

Ok, it's just that I'm now going to be in a couple of tournaments in the point range above the one I thought I'd be in...

I'm suggesting it would be an optional feature "claim points y/n?" kind of thing. Personally, I'd choose yes if I was in a better position or had more material or whatever, but no if I saw that someone had withdrawn from a tournament or was winning but disappeared.

Other players are likely to face the same phenomenon, meaning that your "inflated rating" might not be that inflated, after all...
