You are only playing one game at a time in the tournament !!

You play one game as white, then one game as black.
i think he means he had to play 2 games with the same person, he doesn't have 2 games going at one time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you split the games, what determines who moves on?
If I win 1 and my opponent wins 1.

There is a help file on the tournaments page !!
If 2 players in a group have the same score then both will advance. Tournament Directors can choose to use an additional tie-break method (we use the Neustadtl score) which factors in the strength of the opponents. If two players have the same score and the same Tie Break score, both will advance.

Its difficult to predict how long the first round of the tournament will take to finish as there are still 13 games remaining. Some of which have only made a few moves so far.
Its a 3 day per move game, taking into consideration any vacation time taken.
The tournament started on July 1st .. so from then till now, 24 days have gone by, and 13 games have been completed. There are still 13 games to go.
