Tourney vacation status
To disallow vacation time for what is essentially a correspondence tournament/games is simply ludicrous. As mentioned games/tournaments can go on for months. To assume that the whole world can stop just so you can have your game completed is simply lacking forethought and understanding.
Lets take the whole thing into context. If someone is using vacation to slow down the inevitable, a mate in 2 for example, yet continues to log onto the site to play other games, then yes, this is abuse of the vacation rule (By the way, this situation has been brought up on another thread). I believe, and hope that Chess.com is looking into this and seeks to find a way to stop it.
However...
If someone legitimately goes on vacation for any amount of time from all their games, and returns as normal, then there can be absolutely no complaining. It is important that those of you that have no lives understand that many have to work, and live a life outside of the game. Family needs come first, children, food on the table, and the all important dollar, peso, insert currency here.
If you are unwilling to realize that other people are helping make the world go round while you sit still then it is you who is being rude, not the other way around.
What a stupid post. My Dad had heart failure a week and a half ago. I flew to see him and couldn't play online for the 3 days I was there. I used my vacation over that period so as to not forfeit my games. I'm sure others here have had similar things happen.
You don't want to play correspondence chess? Then don't do it.

Actually I do want to play correspondence chess, but I would like the tournaments to be finished in a timely manner. I have a feeling there are a lot of players that feel the same way. My suggestion doesn't hurt you one bit. If you see an upcoming tournament that has a 'No Vacation' policy, then don't join it. I'm fairly certain the administrators will still run tournaments that allow vacation. For that matter, you or any one else could host a tournament that allows vacation. All I was saying is allow the tournament director the OPTION, before the tournament starts, to allow vacation or not.
