Chess is a two-player strategy board game played on a checkered board with 64 squares arranged in an 8x8 grid. Each player begins with 16 pieces: one king, one queen, two rooks, two knights, two bishops, and eight pawns. The objective of the game is to checkmate the opponent's king, which means to place it under attack in such a way that it has no legal moves to escape capture. Each piece moves in a specific way, and players take turns moving their pieces across the board with the ultimate goal of controlling the centre and attacking the opponent's pieces while protecting their own. Chess is a game that requires critical thinking, pattern recognition, and strategic planning, making it a popular pastime and competitive sport for players of all ages and skill levels.
