Under-promotion Puzzles That Will Boggle your Mind!

Welcome back to another instalment of a friendly GM (not really a GM) trying to give the mental asylum more inmates.

Today we are back with some more puzzles, but this time they are UNDER-promotion themed and mind boggling for the best of players. Feel free to comment down below your favourite!

1. Let's Start Off Easy

This puzzle is a common sight in most coaching books, and while it's uses are debatable, the one thing for sure is the pure brilliance of the moves! I have seen this before, and was really amazed when I finally understood what was going on.

If you solved these puzzles there are explanations in the move list after they are solved. I recommend you read them to get the explanations of the brilliance!

2. What A Knightmare!

This position is of course not a real one, but it's still interesting to solve. Notice the knightmare created for black!

3. Another Interesting Puzzle

This one is fantastic, and congrats on white being such a Chad that He (or She) can turn this into a draw (i think).

5. Who Thought of This??

This person was either very bored or a genius. In all of these puzzles the moves are the top stockfish line so even a seemingly random move is logical for stockfish.

Alright, now onto one made by a grandmaster.....

6. You Really Think I Made This?

Although one of the previous inventors was Columbus Ohio (did you notice), this one is not made by him nor me... Understandable, as a chimpanzee has more braincells then me. This puzzle, was played and made by..... Hikaru Nakamura! This I believe was from a Blitz game, WOW.

He had the balls to see that promoting to a Queen would end in a draw!? That's crazy. Comment down below if you would have promoted to a Queen 👇.

7. More realistic for once!

After all these complicated custom positions, we go back to the old faithful, real endgame situations.
