Like many who find themselves on this page, I believe chess is the ultimate game, pastime, sport(ish), 'addiction,' or whatever you may choose to call it. I played extensively during my teenage years but abandoned it for decades due to three simple reasons: studies, work, and the lack of regular opponents for the only option available back then – the now somewhat old-fashioned over-the-board (OTB) chess.

Like many others on Chess.com, I've been on quite a journey. After spending my early and not-so-early years in Chile, I moved to Venezuela, where I worked as a Press Attaché for a European embassy. In hindsight, perhaps I stayed there a bit too long. A job offer from a large news organization, which seemed quite appealing at the time (lol), led me to London for about three years. As moving seems to be intrinsic to my nature, I am now back in the tropics, enjoying the sunshine of Miami. However, I still travel often, mostly for business but also for pleasure.

Discovering Chess.com has truly made a difference. It has allowed me to engage in intense battles with people from all over the world and share quality virtual and real-time interactions with opponents from as far as South Florida to Argentina, Mexico, the Philippines, Transylvania, and various Caribbean islands. The list goes on.

I speak Spanish, English, and a bit of Portuguese. Good luck in your games, and I'm looking forward to your challenges, whether in Live Chess (if and when it works). You may also check out my blog on Chess.com: http://blog.chess.com/carvilla.

Online Chess: I hope to reach a +2000 rating someday, but I have my doubts. Live Chess: I really enjoy Live Chess, sometimes even more than online.
