Chessbrahs vs Chess.com In New Team Chess Match Monday
Who will win in a battle of online chess titans?
On Monday, the Chessbrahs will take on the faces of Chess.com in a new team chess match format.
You can watch this groundbreaking event live on Twitch.tv/chess and Twitch.tv/chessbrah on Monday, December 17 at 11 a.m. PST (2 p.m. EST, 8 p.m. CET).
GM Eric Hansen and GM Aman Hambleton (Chessbrahs) will face GM Robert Hess and IM Daniel Rensch (Chess.com) in a three-game rapid match where both players on each team will decide every move together.
Each team will talk out its move when on the clock, while the other team thinks in silence.
The match pits the Chessbrahs, pioneering and irreverent online chess streamers, against the Chess.com masters, who are most famous for hosting the largest online audience for the 2018 world chess championship.
The match format:
- Two teams of two chess masters each.
- Players may only talk to their teammates on their own move.
- Each team must come to a consensus for each move played.
- Fans will be able to hear and learn from each team's thought process as moves alternate.
- Time control: rapid chess, 25 minutes plus a 10-second per move increment.
- If either clock gets under one minute, both teams may talk freely at all times.
Tiebreaks:
- If the match is tied after the three rapid games, the event becomes a last-man-standing format, with individual members from each team facing off against their opponents at a blitz time control of three minutes plus a two-second increment per move.
- Players are eliminated with a loss.
- Drawn games are replayed with the colors reversed.
- Last team standing wins.
Prizes:
- $500 to the winning team.
