Cheparinov Wins 2012 Bulgarian Open

Top seed Ivan Cheparinov (pictured) won the 34th Bulgarian Open Championships on superior tie-breaks after finishing level with three others on a score of 7½/9 points.

While many of his closest rivals took quick draws in the final round Cheparinov fought for a win to take the title and €2,000 of the €10,000 prize fund.

The competition (also known as the Georgi Tringov Memorial) took place in Plovdiv, Bulgaria from 29 January - 5 February. The format was a 9-round Swiss at the relatively fast time control of 90 minutes plus 30 second increment. The field numbered 267 players in total.
