Jan Gustafsson is a German grandmaster, chess commentator, and founder of Chess24, now part of Chess.com. He earned his grandmaster title in 2003 and reached his peak FIDE rating of 2652 in November 2010.
Gustafsson has coached the German national team in events such as the 2022 Chess Olympiad and also assisted GM Magnus Carlsen in the latter's final three World Championship defenses in 2016, 2018, and 2021.
In 2014, he helped create Chess24, where he also made his name as a commentator. Chess24 was acquired by the Play Magnus Group in 2019 and merged with Chess.com in 2022.
