Started playing chess aged 9, school captain at 12 - won National Association of Boys Clubs "Birmingham" final aged 13; National Finalist representing Birmingham aged 14. Joined Sparkhill then discovered Bernard Cafferty and Tony Miles at Birmingham Chess Club. Played for Lucas in BDCL Division 2 and Warwickshire, and reached grade 130 between 1973 to 1979. 

Spent 37 years without a Chess Club until September 13th 2016 when I started playing for Greenlands and Worcestershire. reaching a peak rating of 1732. I continue in my role of Secretary and Academy Coach with Longbridge Chess Club.
