There is no explanation for existence based on human logic and experience. We either have to say that existence began with something coming out of nothing, or we say that there has always been existence. Both of those explanations lie outside our experience and understanding.

And yet despite this there is existence. Lots of it: cars, pencils, oxygen, cities, pizzas, planets, atoms, chess of course, pepper, songs, galaxies, people, trouble, marmalade, old fashioned telephones, cucumbers, leopards, grass, algebra and custard to name just a few things that exist.

And that’s the Paradox.

This group believes that deliberating on the Paradox and its implications will bring us closer to ultimate truth. The finding of a solution to the Paradox will represent a huge advancement in human knowledge, and yet we are no closer to finding it than we were when our ancestors stood up on two legs.

Without a solution there will always be a huge gap in our understanding. This may all sound rather ethereal, but the Paradox could be very relevant to our everyday lives, as well as what happens to us after we die. For how can we know that the solution to the Paradox, whatever it is, doesn’t affect them too?
