NM Ronald Finegold played an excellent game in the French Defense against Fischer, who was 20 years old, at the 1963 Western Open in Bay City, Michigan.
Fischer went on to win the tournament with 7.5/8.
NM Finegold decided to reach an endgame against Fischer, and the result was an instructive position reprinted in textbooks and magazines.
